Do you own a mountain bike? Can you borrow one? Are you looking for a fun weekend away?
If you tick these boxes then the Jeep 24hr is the event for you. It’s been going strong since 2003 because it has something in it for everybody. As the name suggests the event is run over 24 hrs but the great thing is you can make it as tough or as cruisy as you want. Most people enter in teams of 2, 3, 4 or 6 so there is plenty of time for kicking back. Or for the hard core endurance nuts you can go solo. It’s up to you whether you ride through the night or tuck up in bed ready for an early start on day 2.
The Jeep 24hr is popular with groups of mates, work colleagues and families. There’s always a friendly atmosphere and you get to take in the awesome trails and spectacular scenery of the Forrest mountain bike park. There are 3 different loops to enjoy throughout the event – each just under an hour in duration.
There is plenty of good camping and accommodation is also available in the local township. On-site catering is well covered with great tasty, nutritious food and an endless supply of coffee. If you have non riders tagging along there is plenty happening to keep them entertained. Even the kids under 13 get to have a go on their mountain bike with the “24 minute”.
For those who want to go hard you can mix it up with the world’s best. The Jeep 24hr is a qualifying event for the World Solo 24hr Championships. Australian Jess Douglas, reigning female 24hr solo mountain bike world champion will be cutting some fast laps in her “back yard”. Jess explained “We are based at Forrest and this is where I do a lot of my training. There is a good mix of stuff. You can definitely make it challenging if you want to hit it hard or less experienced riders can just take it easy. Everyone is out there to enjoy a great weekend of riding.”
Event organiser Kristjan Snorrason said “We are wrapped to have Jeep backing this event. Their support makes a 24hr mountain bike event accessible to the average rider who is out there for fun plus the elite riders. Jeep were one of the pioneers sponsoring mountain biking in this country and we are delighted to welcome them back into the fold.” Chrysler
Last year was a sell out and spots are expected to sell out fast. So don’t sit on the couch. Get out there and be part of the action at the Jeep 24hr.
