Went for a ride with Nick Bowman from IMBA Australia today.

Nick really enjoyed the ride and was super impressed with the trails. IMBA is Australia's authority when it comes to MTB trail advocacy.  To check out more that IMBA Australia has to offer head on over to their website - > http://imba-au.com/

Also, Russ Baker current president of MTBA dropped in for a ride. Russ is a very popular figure around the Mountain Bike community, but is rarely seen on an actual Bike... rumour has it, that he is a "pinner"!

Forrest Feral FridayTonight saw another 20 odd riders line up for another installment of our Forrest Feral Fridays. For the first time, we had enough juniors for them to have their own category.

Once again we also had a great turn out for our kids race, with Connor, Tyler, Mitch, Samuel and Ashley lining up to take on our special kids course.

In the senior race, we saw a welcome return from one of our elite guns in Daryl Burns. All in all a good nights racing, with only a few taking the easy option out, which will now be called "doin a Coey".

Kona-24-hour---2009Despite some of the worst weather conditions ever for a 24 hour event, the 2009 Kona 24 hour was a massive success. Not only for the promotors Full Gas Promotions, but also for the township and people of Forrest.

Thursday night gave us a preview of the weather conditions to come.  Over the 4 days from Thursday Forrest had a little over 80mm of rain.  Contingentcy plans were put into place early on for track changes should the rain get too much.  These changes were realised only 2 hours into the race.

With the race quickly turning into one of atrition, the real athletes came to the fore, with many "would-be" riders pulling up stumps early.

Solo summary.

Male Solo:

  • 1st Jason English
  • 2nd Brad Davies
  • 3rd Andrew Bell

Female Solo

  • 1st Naomi Williams
  • 2nd Courtney Shinn
  • 3rd Jac Connell

Well done to all, and thanks to everyone for supporting our little township.

We regularly get people sending us pictures and videos from their stay at Forrest.  Here is a video from Dean and his mates, from a recent stay.

With final preparations taking place, scores of riders will begin to arrive in Forrest, for the 2009 Kona 24 hour event.  Some 800 competitors will be coming to Forrest over the coming weekend.  Many riders will be bringing support people, which should bring the number of visitors to Forrest well over 1500 for the weekend.

The Kona 24 hour is a major economic stimulant for the Otways area with many visitors spending money over the whole weekend.

If you are thinking of coming along, don't forget to check out any last minute Forrest accommodation deals.

Even if you are not involved in the event, you are encouraged to come along to the Forrest recreation reserve to check out all the action.

For the 3rd year running, the Kona 24 hour will be held at Forrest on 28th & 29th November 2009.  The race is a qualifying race for the World 24 hour championships to be held in Canberra in 2010.

Nicole Cooke2008 Olympic champion Nicole Cooke from the UK will be competiting at the event, as part of a 6 person team.  Nicole is using the event as a warm up for further races in Australia she will be competing in.

Jason EnglishJason English, who is the current World 24 hour solo champion will also be here to defend his title from 2008.  Jason is "super pumped" about the event and has suggested he is raring to go.  He will be leading a highly talented field in the mens elite group including many Colac and Otway locals.

Full details of the event can be found at www.fullgaspromotions.com.au

Track #3 Red Carpet is now officially reopened.  Track works are not yet complete, however due to recent dry periods the chance of further damage is over.

Forrest MTB & Cycling Club - Family Fun DayWhen the idea of a family fun day was first mooted at a Forrest MTB & Cycling club meeting, there were more than a few "naysayers". Perhaps it would be too much work, and would anyone turn up?  Well all those people, including myself have been made to eat our words!
